Just got my August MR today. The article on the River bend and Eastern is a great one. The details are awesome and the room is very nice. I want to know how he keeps the underside of the layout so clean. Mine has at least 10 boxes full of stuff under them, not to mention the shelves with equipment and building materials. What about your layouts?

Yep, you couldn’t swing a cat (not that i would anyway) under my benchwork, every inch is packed to the gill’s with stuff, i have three full size filling cabinets and five half size filing cabinets, to have so much space would be very nice
What’s under my layout now is very What WILL be under it is allt he stuff that MUST be stored inthe basemen, but all containerized in those Rubbermaid tubs, with labels. I will put up with having to keep the containers under there, but I won’t accept random loose stuff. The there thing that will be under my layout are rolling plastic drawers to store all my cars and locos in.

The reason my track is 58" off the floor is so I can maximize the storage underneath.

I got mine here in Canada on Thursday! I like the article on the portable layout, but wish it there had been photos rather than all illustrations. It’s easy to illustrate an item so everything is perfect, but photos show how things really are.

I thought that was what all that space under the layout was for? Actually while I am here. I just finished my last section of bench work. I have been doing each section at a time so I could run trains from pretty much the beginning. In the next several days I will have the mainline loops completed anyway. No more lumber trips to Home Depot! Wooo! Woooo!

Yes!!! It was there!!..and wait…NO!!! I don’t believe it…My letter to the editors about the Coming Events section is THERE…right in the MR!!! Woo Hoo!!! Too bad Mr. Sperandeo and the editorial staff at MR don’t care to listen very attentively to their subscribers.
Has anyone noticed that the “online note” of where to find the Coming Events section on the MR web site is slo-o-o-owly moving down the web page? You have to scroll down now to see the notice to figure out where to go to find the Events listings. It’s getting ridiculous.
A.S. says it all when they feel that editorial comment is more important than keeping their subscribing modelers informed. Then he turns right around and states “…Our concern was and is “how we can maintain or increase MR’s value to its readers”…”
Could someone explain how removing an obviously critically important, miniscule section from the magazine is increasing the value of the MR to me??
Oh well. Anyway…I’ve just achieved my 15 minutes of fame. Thank you all for your support…thank you…thank you… { oh…ok I’m leaving now…}
The reason he has that much space is very simple. He is from another planet and must be an alien. No normal human would have that much empty space… or maybe he is single?

Mine is stuffed too. One of the main selling points to the girl givng me the garage was the amount of storage I could make underneath it. I now have the whole garage, and alot of stuff is under it.

there is less stuff under my layout than there is ontop of my layout. but then again that comes with rebuilding a layout too…
I promised the wife that I would keep those large 50 gallon Rubbermaid storage containers ( the bathtubs with lids) under the layout in exchange for the room I have. It wasn’t a bad bargain. [:D] Of course, part of the bargain was that she would make skirts for the edge of the layout to cover it all,… !?[:-^]
I moved and had to tear up a layout I had been working on for almost 20 years found all kinds of stuff including a full sized switch stand I had planed to turn into a mail box stand thing must have been 150 pounds kind of a hard thing to lose. Cox 47

As for my layout I have about 5 or 6 of those Rubbermaid tubs full of stuff.
5 or 6 of those tubs don’t even cover the CHRISTMAS decorations. And then there’s Halloween, Easter, and the generic seasonal stuff… it truly never ends.

JOHN T1, (sir) Nice letter in MR, top man, did you notice all the space wasted in lineside photos again, they should either fill them with small pictures or squeeze the lineside pics down a bit and use the space for “Events”
By the way my benchwork is 53" high minimum
I’m looking under my layout right now… it has a stack of empty Rubbermaid tubs, stacked inside each other, Some odd containers fully of Christmas decorations, some scenery materials, and a still unopened “QVC Christmas train” (I think it’s nominally G scale) that my mom bought for me (she got one for herself as well) several years ago and finally gave me when I got married and moved out of the house…
Everyone is talking about the August issue, which means I SHOULD BE GETTING MINE SOON!

I have three of those rolling plastic carts under one side for kits/tools/supplies and a four foot wide by three foot high book shelf with some additional supplies. Once the track is down and the kits are built, I will consolidate and remove unecessary storage.
With a four bedroom house with a full basement, walk-up attic, garage, and all the kids moved out, there is plenty of room for a trains only room.

I’ve got lots of stuff stored under my benchwork. Fortunately it’s all model railroading stuff and it’s stored neatly and labeled so I can find it when I need it. The unbuilt kits are in boxes sorted by roadname and everything else is in plastic containers on shelves that I built under the benchwork. Eventually I’d like to install skirting or removeable panels, but I don’t see that happening any time soon.
