Hi all just looking for information if any ,on australian content in model rail etc or if there is any former articles buy aust hobbiest’s…THANKS
I think Narrow Gauge and Short LIne Gazette has had a few Australian / New Zealand things in it, but not much. I can’t recall Model Railroader or Rairoad Model Craftsman doing any articles about it.
I can’t recall any specific content relating to model railroad layouts in Australia either local (Australian) or US prototype roads. I know there is a very large modeling fraternity there with a very high skill level as well.
I do remember however, an article in MR - some time in the 1980’s, I think it was, featuring a guy in New Zealand modeling the BN. There was something about his layout that made it a bit special rather than just another layout featuring the BN.
Also some time latter, Tony Koester, wrote one of his columns recounting his visit to a model railroad show - Christchurch, on New Zealands Southern Island, Te Wai Pounamu, was where he spend most of his time - I think. My memory is not as crisp as it once was.
Anyway, there is a site on the interned that allows you to search what must be a huge data base on Railway related magazines and their contents so if you type “Australia” or some similar reference into the search box it should reveal the results you are looking for. Oh, the URL for this site is:

Sorry, I can’t pass this up - is Austalian the folks that live on the border between Austria and Italy?[:-^]
Don’t feed a line like that to a guy, who when asked by his Mom, “how did you get her pregnant?”, started the answer with "first you take your pants off . . . . "[:I]
my mumsaid to put it insideher but i dont drink cider
I think there is a magazine called narrow gauge down under. Look into it.
The only thing I recall is that in the early 80’s or so there was a picture either in RMC or MR (don’t remember which) of a NSWGR D-59 2-8-2 in N scale that was created from an Atlas/Rivarossi USRA light 2-8-2. As I recall, it looked pretty good.
Not much help, I’m afraid. Blair Kooistra is a Yank who decided to chuck it all for Australian (NSW in this case) prototype. Maybe he’ll eventually get around to writing an article on it. He does have a blog which hasn’t been updated too much of late:
