My layout will be one of the many on the tour this year…(what did I get myself into?!) I’m sure I sent a golden invitation to Mr. Murphy and his gremlins to attend since I was rebuilding my yard ladder last night at 10:00. [:-^]
Terry,
Are you coming to Austin for the show?
Don Z.
I’m going to try to make it over (from the Big Metropolis of College Station) this weekend, but it all depends on the wife’s schedule. [:)]
Hope the show goes well!

Hi,
Don’t take me wrong and it’s a shame to post this, but a word to the wise. Watch everyone that comes to your home layout tour like a hawk. I was helping one of my buddies a couple of weekends ago with his home layout and:
There’s always that one guy that wants to just take what you have.
There’s always that one guy that has to touch everything (and usually breaks something) , usually the delicate scenery.
There’s always that one unruly brat that wants to touch everything and then throw a turnout the wrong direction when you least expect it.
99% of the people that show up at a home layout tour will be nice and know how to act. Just watch out for the other 1%. It can make a fun time turn into an unpleasant experience. If they have eyes on them the entire time they are in the trainroom, the damage will be held to a dull roar.
No Don i can’t make it But i’d really like to see your layout
I need the time to work on mine before my open house
Isn’t funny how the gremlins show up when you put your layout on a tour ?
Chuck,
In a lot of respects, I’m really lucky that my layout is under construction while on the tour. I have no scenery at all, except for a 3 foot long stretch where I was practicing with some ballast. It’s all pink foam prairie with cardboard and foamboard mockups for my buildings. All of my rolling stock is secured out of the train room and fellow forum member TomBryant_MR will be on hand to operate a train around the layout leaving me free to answer any questions.
I also enlisted the support of my brother-in-law, who just happens to be a Texas Sta
Good luck today ! Ask your Brother-in-law if he wants to make a trip to Houston on Nov 18th
Well, I’m happy to report my layout open house was a success! Special thanks to fellow forum member Tom Bryant_MR for operating the trains, allowing me the freedom to answer many questions and play host. I had about 60 people come through to look over the layout and received many compliments for the work that I have done to date.
I was also able to sell off some rolling stock that would never see the light of day on my layout! That means I cleared out some valuable storage space and some people walked out of here with great deals on some rolling stock…all in all, what a day!
Thanks again to Tom!
Don Z.
That’s great Don
Glad you had a good show !
Tom should help you out after you built that beautiful benchwork for him [;)]
I never thought of selling stuff before but it sounds like a great idea
I wish i could have made it over to see your layout and i really miss having breakfast
at Mom’s Dinner which is the best kept secrete in Round Rock !
