Austin Tx, 12 yr old hit by train

A 12-year-old boy is recovering at Brackenridge Children’s Hospital after being hit by a train.

The accident happened just before 5 p.m. Monday along a stretch of railroad tracks located along Burrell and Dale - that’s near Wooten Park.

Austin Police say the boy was walking along the stretch of tracks and got off as soon as he heard the train but was still hit.

EMS says the 12-year-old boy was found near the train and was suffering from minor injuries.

An ambulance took the injured boy to the hospital with multiple abrasions and extremity pain.

I hope he comes out ok.

He is very lucky.

Please remember, railroad tracks are not sidewalks. Expect a train on any track at any time.

BE SAFE ! NOT SORRY !

Isn’t that the Capital Metro trackage used by the Austin Terminal RR?

Got off the center, but not off the tracks… bet he never uses the tracks as his personal hiking trail again.

Yes I believe they are

Those tracks are near my son’s house. He says that people walk along the track all the time and he was not surprised that someone got hit. That will have to change before Capital metro starts light rail commuter traffic on that line.

glad he only had minor injuries.
stay SAFE

you get what you deserve i say tracks are not playgrounds if you want near the tracks walk beside them if nothing else.

Operation Lifesaver.

Yep! That is Cap Metro trackage used by the AUAT. The line runs from the other side of Burnet all the way through Austin to Elgin and Giddings. I don’t know if the trackage out to Elgin and Giddings is active, but Uncle Pete (UP) lists interchanges with AUAT at those two towns. Anybody know if there is regular service out that far?
