Author! Author ! Ed Blysard in Trains Magazine

Kudos to Ed Blysard on his story in the railroad reading section of the October, 2010 Trains Magazine. This is at the second, maybe third(?) time for him? Way to go!

It’s a good and informative story about the personalities on the railroad, and the trials and tribulations of the interview and training break-in process by some ‘old heads’. There’s a method to their madness.

Nice picture of Ed there, too. He could do a Sam Elliott impersonation, I believe . . . .[swg]

Thanks for sharing, Ed.

//waits impatiently at mailbox

I can hardly wait to read it. I’ve always enjoyed reading Ed’s previous works!!

What Brian said![tup]

I think the Post Office is part of the Conspiracy

to delay my OCT Issue![:-^]

Well don’t know what happened, but the mailman brought my copy,TODAY.

I guess that’s what clean living will get you-once in a while.[angel]

Gotta say it. I did enjoy Ed’s story, very much![8D][tup][tup]

Now if we can get those computer folks on the stick, and fix whatever they are fixin’ on monday. So we can get this Forum back ASAP!

Earlier than their prediction? We can only hope!

Wow! The Trains Magazines Gods shined down on S.D this month, and sent our subscriptions first? [^]

Or maybe it was the Mailbox God instead ? Did you leave cold drinks in the mailbox for him ? (See zugmann’s recent post on the ‘Cooler God’ in his locomotive for more insight into this.)

That’s because S.D. has some relatively cool temperatures recently (ONLY 98F!) and everybody (except me, darned) is going up your way for vacation and need their new TRAINS mag for reading pleasure so the Posts Office was good enough to send them up your way first.

ditto

I only live about 35 miles from Kalmbach, and I’m still waiting!

Mine arrived today. Guess what I looked at first!

I am a wordsmith–I pound and cobble and change shapes and whatever else I need to go to make the words work.

Ed, on the other hand, weaves words, and spins some great yarns in the process. I often wish I could do that!

And this is a fantastic piece of weaving here!

What I want to know is, where did the extra cap in the drawing come from? The conductor is tossing Ed’s hat, but nobody’s bareheaded!

I keep telling Ed he should write a book. He keeps telling me he is too busy. [sigh]

I think we could assemble a pretty fair book from his many, detailed posts about switching that he’s posted on here.[:P] If only we knew of somebody in the publishing business…

Kalmbach?

Thanks for the kind words guys…

Carl, Mookie and Brian have all met me, they already know I write pretty much the way I speak, and the stories pretty much tell themselves.

Mooike already knows the “book” is in the works…as it stands, a collection of short stories, novella length.

Most of it will be/is original work, with some things coming from other railroaders.

Kalambach will be my first place to shop it…

And Mookie already knows this too, due to becoming a new grandfather yesterday, it looks like it might take a little longer than I thought…

Summer Rose Blysard was OS at 20:08, 08/26/2010…8 lbs 5 oz.

Gotta re-do another bedroom it seems.

And I thought I was all done raising chicks…[;)]

Now you can write and rock! [^]

Wow again! Congratulations to you and Aimee! Hope mother and child are doing well.

Pat says that young babies have many survival techniques, all of which you’ll find out about again soon, Ed–such as cuteness…

Congrats Ed…both accounts!

Congratulations to family, Ed.[bow]

I have always enjoyed reading collections of short stories such as your book promises to be, and I look forward to being able to read your book. As an aside, my college physics professor published a collection of anecdotes titled My First Fifty Years at King College in which he wrote of many of his students (and some other people at the college)–some of whom I knew, some of whom I had heard of, and others of whom I had not heard of. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the entire collection. I am looking forward to his next book.

Walt’s copy (and Sarah’s) arrived just awhile ago. Ed, that is a very good story. The only thing wrong with it, imho, is it left me wanting to read more! And congrats to you, Aimee, and Mom on the new addition!

Ed, Congrats on the baby! and getting in the magazine and lots of hope for the success of the book.
