Automatic Reverse Loop DC

Sorry if this topic has been addressed before – I am building an HO scale DC (not DCC) dogbone layout with a reverse loop at each end. I know that are auto reverse modules (such as Bachmann and MRC) that take care of the track polarity, but is there any way to also throw the turnout automatically while the train is in the loop? I ran across a product called the Gaugemaster combi controller which does exactly this (in conjunctions with two switch machines), but this is apparently only available in the UK. In fact, there is a YouTube video of it in action (seach Gaugemaster reverse loop) on a small demo layout. I just want to keep the train running continuously (mostly for background effect) without having to attend to it.

On a related question, can two of the Bachmann units be used sucessfully on each end of a dogbone layout? When the polarity is reversed on the “middle section” will it affect the module on the other end, or is it smart enough to adjust?

Hello all,

The two Auto Reversing Units you listed are for DCC. They will not work on DC.

To do this with DC you should look at the Atlas Snap Relay. This, in conjunction with the Remote Switch Machines will do what you are asking.

Also, I would recommend the Atlas Complete Wiring Book. This will give you an overall view of what you are trying to accomplish in DC.

Going to need more than a snap relay and a switch machine. You are going to need some kind of external detection to throw the snap relay to change the polarity and some kind of momentary trip mechanism to throw the turnout.
