Autumn on Boreas Pass (11 IMG - No Trains, Just Former ROW)

Hi Gang,

Last week I told you that my Colorado autumnal travels this year took me over Boreas Pass amongst other places. The Boreas Pass road follows the old right of way of the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad. It would be delightful to see a little narrow gauge train running over this route today. Alas, the tracks were removed in the 1930s. There are still a few signs that the railroad once operated here though, and it’s nice that one can at least drive this route today as I think it’s one of Colorado’s most spectacular autumn drives.

The route starts in Como. There are still a few remnants of the railroad in Como, including the old roundhouse:

Someone in Como has a sense of humor regarding the non-railroad:

There are also some remnants of the railroad at the summit of the pass, including the old sectionhouse and a boxcar:

Chris:

Beautiful shots. Even with no railroad…You still find a way to shoot railroads! Have to agree whit what Houston Ed has said…more than once.

You just don’t seem to go to uninteresting places, and shoot uninteresting shots. [swg]

[bow] Tanks! for sharing! [8D]

Is the short section of track bolted together with hardware store bolts still up there? (Park Service re-creation)

Thanks, Sam!

MC - It is. I accidentally drove past it on this trip, but a friend who went up there the following day stopped and saw it.

I’m guessing you are talking about Rocky Point south (RR east) of the summit. There is a picture in the below link:

Taurus?

You haven’t gotten rid of the cop-car, have you?

I especially liked the towering-trees shot.

Thanks for the link, Mike!

Carl, the Caprice is still in my possession, but she’s out-of-service and sadly has been for some time. Someday it would be fun to get her up and running again, but lack of time and funds have prevented that thus far.
