Avatar?

HELP!!! Can someone walk me through the process of adding an Avatar? I have a favorite drawing on my letterhead, which is on Desktop of Office 2007 of Vista, but I had a devil of a time getting it from my scanner to the document in the first place. I’ve been able to copy things from the Internet, via Ctrl-C, and paste them into a document (helped me out in spelling “L’Arlesienne” last week), but can’t seem to reverse the process to copy something from a Word document to the Forum.

All you need to do is go to the “update profile” link at the top right of the page, scroll down to the avatar section, click on the “enable avator” button and then upload it from your computer using the “browse” button. Once you’ve uploaded it hit the “update” button.

I only get to see people’s avatars if I’m not actually signed in. Once I do they disappear no matter what computer I’m on. Is that normal?

Thanks, TA, but how the devil do you acquire the image? As you can see, I got the image from My Scans, but although it shows the picture rightside-up on the scan image, it came through turned 90 degrees–and now I can’t figure out how to get rid of it so I can try again!

I tried using the right-click “Copy” feature on the image from my letterhead document, then pressed Ctrl-V to try to copy it into the box for the avatar, but all I got was a box with a little red “x” in it. Now I have the sideways picture and can’t delete it so I can try again! As an old friend of mine used to say, “Oy Vay iz mir!

I see your avatar very clearly, and properly oriented. It is an etching of a steam locomotive. Maybe your own settings are precluding your seeing it? Certainly your profile settings seem to be in order if I can see it.

trainfan,
You have to go and turn them on in your profile. When you’re not signed in, all the avatars and signatures will show (that’s the default). But if you’re signed in and you have these options turned off, they will all disappear.

Just now, I turned mine on and created an avatar for the first time. I had them all turned off because I had dial-up for years, and it would take forever to load all these little graphics that people put in their posts. However, I just got a cable modem at home, and I’ve DSL at work, so I might as well turn them on now…at least until they start to annoy me. [:)]

I’m amazed! When I logged off Tuesday morning, the image was still turned 90 degrees, but when I logged on just now (2am) it’s rightside-up! I begin to suspect witchcraft…

Now, maybe someone can tell me how to upload a larger image of that loco so I can see if anyone recognizes it.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately I went and did that and still no avatars. Oh well.

I’m just checking… Just uploaded an avatar, I think. Since there does not seem to be a preview at that point, I guess I will have to write a short message to see if it came thru. Thx SF BIll

Finally figured it out! I really gotta get with the program on these things.[D)]
