Award Winning! - Silver Spring Station

My station for my main town of Silver Spring is prototypically based on the Rockford and Interurban combination depot in Winnebago Illinois -

The body is pink insulation board construction. Most of it is 3/4 inch except the ends which are 2 inches thick for strength -

The foam was cut on the table saw and glued together with Titebond II. Window and door openings were cut out with an exacto knife. The removed sections were used to reinforce the door and windows. Window openings were cut out with my Tippi hot wire cutter. The windows and doors are Precision Products and brick veneer is Plastruct. The veneers were glued with Loctite PowerGrab.

The sub roof is hardibacker board with aluminum panels I ran over a jig and and shaped with a Sharpie cap. The aluminum was give to me by Yogi Wallace at last year’s ECLSTS. The corbels were cut and shaped in cedar. The base is hardibacker topped with cedar boards.

My station just picked up second place at this year’s ECLSTS model contest. My boxcab picked up first in the very comp

Very nice looking station! [:O]

Brian:

Looking good, both the stations and motive units. Thanks for sharing.

I think the walls are too thin…[:-,]

Congrates on the wins! they look great as always! [swg]

I like the construction pics, but guys, the pics don’t do any of the three justice; they’re 10 times as impressive under the Mark 1 eyeball! I wish I had Brian’s talent and patience!
