My girlfriend said she was making me something for my birthday and it was a secret. I never thought it would turn out this good OR that it would be train related. It was just a wooden train model from Menards. She did ALL the painting (the Miller Lite logo was free hand too!). She then glued a bottle cap on the smoke box to mimic a builders plate on the smoke box cover! Why Miller Lite? (you may be asking) Well, I work as a beer delivery guy for Miller. I got a really big kick out of this thing, She is the first girlfriend that actually supports my hobby/love of trains. So, I thought I would show all you people on here cause I thought you people might get a kick out of it.
You are so lucky! Women that even just tolerate us are scarce as hen’s teeth. You better do something nice for her! Find something she is interested in and see if you can share.
In my experience girlfriends are pretty good about the train hobby. It’s when they become wives they start having a problem with putting trains in “their” basement.
My experience has been different. My wife of 30 years still takes an active interest in the layout, does scenery items, helps with trackwork when I need an extra hand, and even gives advice on the weathering and building projects. She made the curtains that go around the different parts of the layout, and has made trees in her lap while we travel, and I come home with a box full of trees.
She even says very little or nothing when I overspend. As she says, she doesn’t go without anything she needs or wants, so she can’t complain.
My wife found the little cans. The RBLs on the head end are representative of the cars that are used to haul outbound product from Miller. The engines are also similar to what is used to switch the place.
I have to brag too… my wife gave me half the money for my new Digitrax Super Chief. She also gave me the room over the garage… I think we’re both lucky!
If only you knew how “Awesome” your girlfriend really was. She did things to me I cannot speak on a forum about, and it was NOT even my birthday!! Uh oh I am getting all excited again!!
