This seems to be a pretty good deal as far as I know. The only downfall I found was that the item can’t be insured, that seems to be a gamble, but no reserve and starting at one cent with no shipping fee’s, seems pretty sweet to me.

Whoops, forgot tp put the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/HO-P2K-E7-A-B-Set-920-40550-UP-w-Mars-Light-NEW_W0QQitemZ110092339905QQihZ001QQcategoryZ19135QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
There is no way of knowing if it is a good deal or not until the final bid. Some very popular items are not bid on until the final 15 seconds… That is when I always bid on a model that I would like to puchase.
I found the following list for the same units at $119 from a store.
40550 | UP | 999 994B | Mars Light | 1 | $119 |

Yeah, but how good a deal is it going to be after 9 days of bidding? One of the greatest incentives to bidders is a low starting bid, because they feel like they’re going to get a great deal and get emotionally roped in to the auction. It doesn’t mean it won’t end up being a good deal, but I’ve seen advice for sellers stating that a low starting bid tends to result in higher winning bids, and 9 days is a long wait. It’s a bit premature to call it a bargain.
TrainWorld has this deal:
30792 | PROTO 2000 E8/9 A/B COMBO. ASSORTED ROADS | BLOWOUT 79.99 |
---|
Understood. I just think taking a gamble on something like this by pricing it with the lowest price possible could result bad for the seller if nobody runs across this item, but that is probably not going to happen.

With 9 days left to go on the bidding, it will probably wind up costing more than what you can get it for from other sources.
First of all, any time I see a member bringing up an auction on ebay now, it makes me suspect that it may just be their own auction that they might be advertising… (Not saying you are or it is) The reason I say this is because that’s what I use to do. Secondly, I would avoid any auction that doesn’t offer insurance like the plague!. And like someone has already said, a one cent auction can go through the roof in the last few minutes. When I see an item I want now, I place a high bid on it and forget about it until I get an e-mail telling me either that I won the item or was out bid.

Its not my item, and I was thinking about the insurance ordeal, and that just isnt a very good think because alot of people get messed over by that.

This Ebay seller also sells “online” and currently sells this same set for $143.50.

Hope this doesn’t come out sounding too harsh, but your question is pretty much the equivilant of showing all of the other players at a poker table your cards and asking “Do I have a good hand?” [:-^]

I’ve run into the no insurance situation before and I told the seller I wanted it and most often they say OK. Worth a try!!
Ebay auction threads should die. What If I was one of the bidders on this auction? You have just possibly doubled the price.
This should NOT be a place for ebay auction threads. Atlas forums does not allow it.
David
First of all, this isn’t the “Atlas” forums… Secondly, there are a lot of us that appreciate the ebay topics. If you have a problem with it I suggest you write Bergie the forum moderator and complain to him about it.

David-
This is a friendly “general disscusion” forum and we are allowed and given the priveledge to talk about anything related to the model railroading hobby, so if you don’t want eBay threads, DON’T VIEW THEM!!! You wouldn’t have even noticed if you would have just scrolled over and not let it get to you, and go on with your life instead of causing an uproar…

David zapped me on another thread with the same concern. I admit this is a thread I probably wouldn’t have started, but as I said before, e-bay is a significant source for products, particularly for those like me who model a fallen flag and therefore there are limited products available in that road name. I agree with all above, that the bid will probably go higher, but the responses here are exactly why I think discussing this on this forum is a good idea. If you can get these AB units for $79.95 at Trainworld, then you’ve just given one of our forum members information on what amount he shouldn’t bid over!! I don’t know about you, but I think that’s valuable information.
Edit: I’d also guess that Atlas not allowing e-bay discussions on its forum is self-serving–i.e. doubt they would want anyone knowing of other sources for lower prices on their products than their factory or dealers

Also the reason for low starting prices is fees, up to 99cents is one price and goes up from there, 2 real actions start low and with no researve so that people get excited about the item and drive up the price, works 9 out of 10 times and one of those times the price will go throgh the roof.
