B&O Cabooses

There has been a number of B&O Cabooses that I feel is under produced in the HO and other scales except O scale.

I found a I-12 Wagontop Caboose for the B&O as a kit for HO scale and Ready to Run in O Scale as well as similar versions like the I-17 in Brass costing as much as some locomotives in HO scale. That is not what I am seeking.

Walthers did show a early B&O Caboose in yellow in thier Platinum Line but I dont consider this appropriate for the late steam era that I am modeling.

I call on HO scale manufactors to create a Ready to Run model of a B&O Caboose for the early I-1, I-5’s and the I-12’s as well as the I-17’s I probably can purchase several of good quality RTR Cabooses of this line for the cost of one kit that is already built or a brass model.

Manufactors talk about not understanding the market or perhaps not knowing what the demand is, but several other forums have indicated that they too would like to get models of this caboose.

I say it’s time the B&O got thier proper Caboose in RTR for HO scale.

I went to Walthers.com and checked out thier B&O cabooses. They range from $9.00 for the wood cabooses to almost $40.00 for the Platinum line. They better be gold plated if they expect me to buy one. I run caboose-less trains anyway - so there.

The more advanced kits range from 45.00 to around 200 dollars or more on ebay for RTR brass models. So there. =)

There are some nice craftsman kits to be found on ebay from time to time. So what if its not RTR, learn a skill and get a fine model, CHEAP!!![:D]

They’re just so road specific, I really don’t see any in the near future. Have you checked the resin kits from the B&O Historic Society? I know your looking for RTR, but don’t hold your breath.

Hmm.

B&O. PRR. Rio Grande. Santa Fe. ASTF. GN. CNW. etc etc etc. What is one road being more specific than another?

There are probably a large number of modelers who might buy such a model if one was produced. The best I can do is to take an Atlas RTR undecorated model, blast it with a can of flat red and decal it for the B&O and call it good. But that is not enough because the caboose looks like a New Haven one. My skill level has not advanced to the point of resin kits or craftsman models yet. I probably will destroy a few eggs before learning how to make a proper omlette. But am learning little by little.

sounds good to me thats my favorite road

How many RR beside B&O used a “wagon top”, whether cabbose, box car or covered hopper. These tend to be road specific…
Will a manufacturer toot a model for just the B&O, or how many will buy a Sante Fe , NH, UP wagon top caboose?
