B&O F3 shells

Hi,

I have a number of F3’s from different road names. Now, I’m going to try to narrow things down and have more pure B&O layout. So do anyone know if there are any F3 or F7 shells available for the B&O that would fit on to a PCM F3?

Magnus

Nad 25 Big Bpys work in how? I mean, the largest thign they ran was hardly articulated. [:p]

Athearn made, makes a bunch of B&O Fs, you may be able to get/request some from them.

Well I would have to say that the EM-1 was a fairly large engine! [:p]

But since you ask, here is what I’m going to do. I’ve ordered a Brass BB, so now I have one extra, I’m going to letter that for the B&O and say that the B&O got one as a test in 1944. So there you go. The rest will be as they are now on display.

I will check Athearn.

Magnus

I stand corrected. What;s an EM-1?

EDIT: Oh, that’s an EM-1. Looks like a Class A N&W. Still, what’s that gonna do to the superfleet?

What do you mean by superfleet?

Magnus

the big boys.

And anyway, we’re getting off topic. Stwert Sells BO Fs too on LokSound chassis, the same af PCM, I think .

Do they sell them separately? I have e-mailed Athearn and will see what they answer.

Magnus

I thought so. There’s at least dummies, for you to stick the other shells on for static purposes

EDIT: Okayy… I know there’s a B unit. That’s half your problem.

Now if we only could find some A shells. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Magnus

I don’t know if they would fit, but you could try Intermountain F unit shells:

They also have shell kits:

The auction site has shell kits every now and then; I got a UP kit a while ago. I’m going to put it on a Proto 1K drive.

Thanks for those links. To and Walthers do not seem to carry them. Do anyone know how well they fit on a PCM F3 chassi?

Magnus

I found this, sold out, but since Intermountain says they are in stock wouldn’t Walthers be able to get hold of them.

On that picture those shells look great. Anyone got an opinion on them?

Magnus

Walthers carries Intermountain, manufacturer #85. See http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/85-44508 for an example.

As far as Stewart, here’s a link: http://www.bowser-trains.com/Stewart/Stewart%20F%20Single%20Units.htm or http://www.walthers.com/exec/search?manu=691&split=30 for the product line.

Yes, but they are out of stock. I did e-mail them though to see if they can get them.

Magnus

Walthers can not get them. But I have e-mailed Intermountain directly about them. They look great.

Magnus

I;m going to ask a stupid question: Is there a hobbysotre you can call that might bne able to get them? I know the US stores have a figurative network and can often turn up stuff that’s “out of stock”

The closest hobby store is 500 km away and they do not have those kind of connections unfortunately. Good idea otherwise. I got an answer from Athearn, they did not have any painted shells available at all. Intermountain is out of stock and will not be produced again. So I’m down to Stewart, I will have to try them. I’ll see what I can do.

Thanks for helping me out, I really apreciate it.

Magnus

Well here is an update, Athearn had unpainted version of the F3 BB shells. So I will order some and play around with. They where cheap so if the paint comes out like crap there isn’t a big deal anyway.

Magnus

To simplify the paint job, you may consider to paint them in the Royal Blue w/ the black band (decal). This appeared about mid 50s around the B&O renumbering. Still a good looking F unit.
