I’ve seen photos of HO scale B&O 0-4-0 Docksides (No. 98 in particular) with white lettering and with yellow lettering along their tanks. Which is correct? The only prototype photos I have found are in B&W.
Jumijo,
Since this is a proto-specific inquiry, it might better asked (and answered) on the Prototype information for the modeler forum.
Tom
I moved it for you. [:)]
I think I would have had more luck if you left it where it was. This prototype forum is dead. That’s why I didn’t post here in the first place.
Which would you rather have see your question - 100 folks who care about specific prototypes, or 1,000 who are into general model railroading?
Insulting your hosts and those who might be best able to answer your question is hardly the best way to get your question answered. And because prototype modelers do a lot of research, they tend to expect those seeking the fruits of their research to put in a little effort of their own. Have you tried any of the B&O Historical Societies or conducted some photo searches on the Web? It may well be that lettering colors and styles changed over the years - it certainly did for other railroads I have researched.
my thoughts, your choices

I don’t see anything insulting in what I wrote. I stated that this forum was not where I wanted my question posted because there isn’t much traffic here.
And still not answered. Not familiar w/ the Dockside and it’s evolution through the changes. If it follows any of the other B&O paint and numbering timeline, It wasn’t until 1962 repaints on diesels that the larger B&O herald was painted yellow
Pretty sure the Docksides were gone by 1962! LOL
B&O steam lettering practice was bronze gold and then dulux gold in later years. I believe the change was just prior to WWII. I’m very sure white is incorrect. I have not seen any color shots of either Dockside but I would venture to say they would have followed standard practices.
I would ask the question on the B&O Group on yahoo.
I don’t think you were insulting the MR staff by stating the obvious.
My 2,
Roger Huber
Thanks, Roger. All the color photos of B&O steamers I looked at do show the “yellow” lettering. I found commercial decal lettering to be too bright and too yellow, so I made my own with a closer match to the dulux coloring.
