B&O OLD MAIN SUBDIVISION

BALTACD,

What is current state of the Old Main Line Subdivision. Last I knew it was repaired, after Hurricane Agnes?, but was dark territory. You mentioned it being used as a bypass around the Metro wreck. How has that been working out?

Old Main Line was repaired as Timetable & train orders after Agnes and was place back in service in the Spring of (if I remember correctly) 1975, it was washed out again in the fall of that year and was restored to operation the following spring. While the FRA allowed TTTO operation for a period of time, they did require the CTC signal system to be reinstalled and activated. I don’t know when this was accomplished, however it was shortly after the 2nd reopening.

The Old Main Line is the preferred route for all coal and empty hopper trains between Cumberland and Baltimore account the better grades than exist on the Metropolitan and Capital Subs.

The detour of Richmond-Cumberland trains using the Capital Sub to Baltimore and then the OML to the west, created more problems in Baltimore than on the OML, as the trains upon arriving Baltimore had to be run-around to go to their destinations, as their is no connection from the OML to go West on the Capital Sub, only East into Baltimore.

Thank you ACD. I have been to Relay so I understand the problem.
