B&O Sentinel Boxcar

Hello Forum,

Can anyone tell me if Lionel’s version - colors - of the B&O Sentinel boxcar is actually prototypical? I saw a photo of the real boxcar and the the blue appears to be closer to navy than aqua. Having said that, is Williams version of the same boxcar closer to navy or is it aqua?

I can remember seeing the B&O Sentinel boxcars on the SP in the 50’s and I’m sure they were navy blue, they were not aqua.

You might find more information on Lionel and Williams products over on the Classic Toy Trains forum. The MR forum is geared more towards two-railers so we’re not that familiar with the three-rail equipment.

I will note that blue and green can be hard to get right based on prototype pics because both colors tend to fade pretty quickly from the sun and weather. The navy blue MN&S engines I grew up around would fade like blue jeans over a few years, from dark blue to a medium to royal blue.

Based on the photos I’ve seen the prototype uses navy blue. The Lionel car I have also uses navy blue, very close to what I remember as the correct color.
