B-units

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B_unit thats my reference source -santa fe took delivery of 23 GP60B units in 1991 and now they are all in service w/ BNSF will BNSF keep using them? what paint schemes are they painted in? i like b-units they look cool[:D]

They’re only 15 years old, I doubt there going to be retired anytime soon. All of them are in H1 now I believe.

thanks bnsfbrakie, i know santa fe and BN both ordered gp60b’s in 91’ there could be a few santa fe ones left -it’d be cool to see H3 paint on a b unit

They are good nits that aren’t that old, with good solid 710s in them. I sincerely doubt they will pull them antime soon (Knock on wood)

Can’t remember the color scheme, but my list shows 7 of them having gone through or live here in our yard.

Mook

we’ve had a few of the b’s come over and visit csx here in ohio.

The GP60B are a great unit for adding extra ponies without adding the extra cab. I have seen them behind everything you can think of. The oddest thing I have seen them behind is a old GP9 in work train service. Normally they are behind gp60 or dash-9’s.

Once in a while we will see GP60 A-B-B-A lashups here on trains (rather rare, but they do happen at times) and I can’t help think back to the F unit days.

Occasionaly I get over to the Joliet train station at the old ATSF/RI crossing to watch trains on their way to and from Corwith yard in Chicago. The only 60B engines I have seen are still in ATSF paint as I recall.

Every single GP60B is now in BNSF H1(325-347).

327 and 337 were the last to be painted on 11/25/02.

BNSF also owns 3 GP9Bs(1700-1703),1 GP38-2B(2249),3 SD40-2Bs(7500-7502) and 4 SD45-2Bs(7504-7508)

1700(GP9B),2249(GP38-2B), and 7501(SD40-2B) are in H1. 7507(SD45-2B) was retired and went up fore sale on 7/21/04. 7509-7511 have been sold to NRE and been rebuilt and are now on lease to BNSF.

so if i did my math right BNSF owns 53 b-untis

Here are some pics from Al Krugs site

grat pics chad thomas ,i esp. like the last one- road #346

Do those have hostler’s controls?

i think most b-units did

BN never ordered any GP60B’s. Those and GP60M’s were Santa Fe only.

gluefinger, look at this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B_unit at the end of the fourth paragraph it says:Few B units have been built in the last 40 years. Railroads that kept ordering B units longer than most were largely Western roads, including the Union Pacific, Burlington Northern, and the Santa Fe, who ordered the GP60B model in 1991, the final B units built in North America as of 2005

Conrail ordered some GP60Ms, but changed the order to SD80MACs. They would have looked cool in blue! [:)]

BN’s B-units were the 4000 Class GE B30-7A’s…now off the roster.

That sentence is badly structured- I’m going to change it right now. ATSF was the only railroad to get GP60Ms and GP60Bs. Wikipedia has its purpose, but isn’t the most factual source anyway- always use more than one source, especially with Wikipedia.
