Was there any major visual difference? I have a Bachmann Plus B23-7 but the Dash 7 line predates my time frame. I don’t see a difference in my train spotters guide but it’s hard to tell. The guide made no mention of visual differences, just basically said the Dash 7 version was an update U boat.
One big visual difference is that the B23-7 has an overhanging radiator section.
There are a lot of different photos of both engines at the following site: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/modelList.aspx
Yeah I kinda forgot about that. But, with some careful cutting and a fresh blade I should be able to work it out. The original plan was set in transition period, suggest motive power for the RR was a 2-8-2 or early F unit, while an RS3 for a Katy. Oh lets see, plan had an oil loading spotch, couple of stock pens, and a meat packing plant. I might have enough room to throw a team track in there and add some stock pens for the meat packers. I’m sort of lucky I picked the loke I did instead of redoing the GP18, mechanical reefers were more mainstream, although at that point I think cattle would be trucked more by truck. Eh, maybe I’ll just toss in a few more oil pumps.
Ummmm, I’m confused. I don’t know if U23Bs and 2-8-2s would have coexisted. According to http://www.thedieselshop.us/DataGEIndex.HTML, built dates for U23s started 8/1968, and 9/77 for the B23s.
And Atlas makes a model of the U23B. That would be a lot easier than hacking up the B23. At least in HO.
