Bachman 2-8-2

A friend has a Bachman 2-8-2 he got at a train show. It came in a standard Bachmann box labled “Mikado” on the front and 4-8-2 on the side. The locomotive seems to be a spectrum, but I can’t find anything like it on the Bachmann website. I need a parts list to replace a broken gear. Can anyone help me please?

Thanks!

Looks like there is a parts list for a backman mikado at hoseeker.net web site. Give it a try to see if it is what you are looking for.

I assume, if it’s a 2-8-2, it’s a model of the Chinese SY engine…

No, it’s an American style Mikado…

novicerr, thanks for that website… it’s now bookmarked!!

Actually, it’s a Reading 2-8-0 with a trailing truck crammed under the firebox which, in my opinion, does not a Mikado make.

You’re welcome v & al. Glad I was finally able to help someone. I have received lots of help here just by reading. Am sure I will come up with many questions before I complete my layout, (if they are ever complete)

V&AL:

That’s an older Bachmann 2-8-2 which was fabricated from their Reading 2-8-0 by putting a trailing truck under the firebox. As per the parts list, it had a ‘pancake’ motor, which was discarded by Bachmann some years ago in favor of their newer 5-pole, so I don’t know if parts would still be available for it. Probably the best bet would be to phone Bachmann and see if there are still replacement gears available for it. Sorry I don’t have their phone number, but you could probably get it off of their web-site. I understand that phoning Bachmann is the best resort for service, and I’ve heard that their Customer Service is pretty co-operative.

My only concern for your friend is that the locomotive is so old that there might not be any replacement parts available from Bachmann anymore. But it’s certainly worth a try.

Good luck.
