What motor does your U36 have? Is it the single truck “pancake motor”, or the larger motor with a metal chassis and 8 wheel drive (old style; I don’t think the U36 ever got the newer “Plus” drive with flywheels)?
I would have to say that the motor is pretty much pancake style. It actually measures 1&3/8x1&7/8.
