I have a Bachman E60CP which I know isn’t one of their top notch models, I received it as a kid in the mid 80’s. I’d like to remotor the loco, including DCC, if possible and perhaps add some additional details to it. Has anyone ever attempted such a project?
The most popular remotoring involves using an Athearn Blue box U 33C or U36c chassis and plopping the Bachman shell on it. Beyond that you could go as far as you want with a can motor and DCC.
Thanks for the info, that sounds like an easy enough conversion. I can probably find one of the Athearn BB units on ebay and then it would just be a matter of dropping in a DH123AT decoder from Digitrax.
the U33C chassis isn’t long enough, nor does the fuel tank details match. the C44-9W chassis is still to short! Repowering the thing seems to be either nearly impossible, or not worth the time. The closest i’ve got was using a C44-9W chassis, and filing down the fuel tank areas so i could fit the water tank and eqipment housing ( looks like a fuel tank) which i had cut off the old bachmann chassis. unfortuneately i fracture that chassis from constantly filing it, which takes hours if you don’t have a grinder around. If i were to fix it, the next step would be to mount styrene plasticin the shell so that it could hold the shell over the chassis, because it is to short, but only by a tiny bit. I wish some company would make a new casting for the E60CP.
I remember in the early '90s and late 80s Walthers actually had an E60CP model available in HO, with body mounted couplers and all the nice things. Maybe a few are still floating around on Flea Bay?
