Anyone here know anything about Bachman H0 scale Civil War train sets? I have an opportunity to buy two sets one Union and on Confederate, new in box never opened. Two hundred sixtytwo pieces total. I did an Ebay search, an advanced search on Trains.com forum, and several Google searchs and turned up nothing. Asking price is $125. Knowing the reputation of Bachman sets might it be worth that? I may be able to get them for a little less.
Here’s the Union set on Ebay for 49 bucks.

If you’re getting these for collecting only, I’d go for it. If you’re looking for any kind of operations, I don’t know. That set I posted doesn’t seem to be the Spectrum line, but rather the standard line from Bachmann, which is lower in terms of quality than the Spectrum. Maybe some here have experience with these sets. I don’t. If it does turn out they the sets are Spectrum, I’d buy um in a second.
If you buy them for display, they are fine. For operations, a lot depends on the condition of the 4-4-0 American packed in the sets. At the least, they will need to be cleaned & relubed. You could try the Bachmann website to see about when the models were produced. You should check with the service department to see if they have any parts available.
the civil war sets are NOT spectrum quality locos . so they won’t be the best runners , might be fun to own the 2 sets though
Thanks for the responses guys.
Rob, thanks for the link, I must have worded my search poorly.
I decide to forego the train sets. They don’t fit in to my layout and not a collector of Civil War stufff so there are better things to get with my railroad dollars.
Thanks again.
