Bachman HO shay

Hello,

What does anyone know about the Bachman HO Shay with the Soundtraxx decoder and sound?

How does it perform and is the sound OK? Is it plastic or metal?

Your opinion please.

Jerry

I have one. It’s a three truck shay that looks powerful enough to haul a long train. It’s plastic, nicely detailed, the connecting rods and the crankshaft turn. Top speed is low, just like the prototype. If you run it on the main line it will slow traffic a lot. Mine is DC so I can’t say much about sound or DCC. It’s a nice model.

I can’t comment on the sound version, but my Shay is a great runner. It’s smooth and quiet, it has a realistic top speed, and it has plenty of traction and power. Except for the trucks and some details, it’s solid diecast metal and has a lot of weight because of it.[:D]

I have seen and heard the DCC version with sound. The decoder was a Tsunami and it sounds really good. You still have to watch the Shay for cracked gears, but you can send it to Bachmann for repair / replacement.
