Even if you don’t model or are particulary interested in ON30, I must say Bachman hit the nail on the head with the introduction of a affordable 4-4-0. Personally, I plan to convert my to S scale as a member of SP’s once numerous E class locomotives…Way to go Bachman!

Modeling the mighty SP during the golden years of steam in S
I haven’t seen any pics of that one yet. I love that 2-4-4 Forney they have. I’ve been looking REAL hard at their On30 stuff. Thinking about making the leap from HO to that! I want to get one of their 2-6-0 passenger sets just to get my feet wet in the On30 pond.
I’m really surprised at the amount of kits that are available based on Bach trucks and motors.
Isn’t that a little beauty? And it just cries out for kit-bashing. If I were into On30, I’d be jumping onto it just to see if I could convert it to that gorgeous Eureka and Palisade 4-4-0 I’ve seen ‘guest-starring’ on the Durango and Silverton from time to time. I think Bachmann’s got a little winner, there.
Though the drivers look a tad too small, my favorite replacement Bowser HO drivers will cure that, new axles and assorted sundries, replacement of O guage details with S should produce a credible model. Maybe I’ll do an upgraded E class with valve gear and my own cylinder castings for that roaring twenties look. You know, I keep eyeing the Shays for possible conversion, sure, i’d loose the T-boiler (changing the guage on one side only, which is prototypical in some cases)…Hmm, better stop while i’m ahead…
I saw them at the Narrow Guage convention last fall. They are great. I will wait until next year when they may come out sound equiped. That sound thing is what one of the Bachmann guys said, we shall see. I have the Forney and it has the best sound of any of my engines.
