These Shays look good but have they improved their gears? My early model has stripped the gears several times. The company has always replaced them at no charge but it is still a hassle to send back and forth.
Also, I have no idea what the sound system is. Does it sound good and is it reliable?
A fellow modeler that I know has one. I think the sound decoder is a Tusanimi. It sounds good.
No help on the gears except that NWSL has metal replacements in a kit. You have to replace them yourself. I haven’t done it yet, so I can’t help you there. I think the small gears crack instead of stripping.
(I have the Shay and added my own sound decoder, a QSI. It sounds good too.)
I’ve done the NWSL gear upgrade, read the instructions, take your time, and it will run better than the original. (thanks to Darth for the moral support) [:D]
