I get a Bachmann 4-6-4 Heavy , and would like to know the minimum curved tracks it can run without derailing.
Thx,
Rudy

although i do not have an answer for you…i do have the bachmann 4-8-4 niagra that runs perfectly fine on 18" radius curves…it looks silly with the overhang…but it navigates the turns perfectly fine…i did have to weight the front pilot wheels a bit but it works…
Do you mean a Spectrum 4-8-2 USRA Heavy Mountain ?
If so, the recommended absolute minimum is 22", with 24/26 preferred. The Spectrum Heavy Mountain has detailing much closer to the prototype than the 4-8-4 models in the Standard (or Plus) series, restricting it to larger curves.
Yes, it is 4-8-2. Sorry, it is my mistake.

I have three of the heavy mountains. One with the Vandy tender and all three run just fine in on 18in radius track with no problem. The key is to have good and smooth track work. I use both directions and all speeds. You may have to adjust the tender to engine wire harness so it is not binding and free to flex.
