Bachmann 80 ton 3 truck shay
I’ve got 2 models of them, very good detailed model. The only problem I’ve is to go downhill, then its no smooth running.
It looks nice but it grinds so badly.
It sure doesn’t run smoothly! Neither extensive greasing nor a BEMF decoder (TCS DP2X) doesn’t improve that. Maybe it just needs a lot of breaking-in …
They are cool and all, but i do agree, they are loud and run horibly, but yes they are fun to watch (if you can get them going! LoL)
I owned one of these when they first came out, smooth as silk and a real joy to operate, not sure where the grinding issue is coming from with the other reviewers, mine made no noise at all! Try before you buy I guess!
I have a Shay with DCC and sound, looks great a real slow mover just like the Shay’s at Cass Scenic Railway. Handle with care and you should have no problems. Electrical pickups are my only concern.
I have one of these fine little logging/mining engines and it is a joy to run and watch. The Tsunami DCC sound module was easy to install and it runs like a top. I too don’t know what all the noise is, about some noise in the engine but the one I purchased is as quiet as can be (execpt when I blow the whistle). A nice little engine, and can’t wait until my HO Climax arrives next week.
Had Mine for about two years. Runs every Week. Never had any problem with it…smooth as glass
Mine runs well. Tsunami sound installed, sounds great.
Climbs well with a load of log cars. I have found it sensitive to
track condition and turn radius. I originally had the turns too tight.
Sound already installed, out of the box onto the track, wow! what a runner,no noise, just smooth as. Sound --incredible!!!
I own 4 of these models (just got one with sound) and they all run perfectly. The sound in the new one is great. All in all, a great running model…runs way better than the old brass ones!
I have 6 , even making a 4 truck out of 2 of them , all of them run a lot better than bass , with no noise .
mines really noisey but runs really good
When will they make it in hon3?
My oil fired Shay is smooth, runs great. All those details, functional rotating rods and gears - this is hands down one of my favourite engines.
I’ve put Digitrax DH123AT decoder in it, great low speed. Front light could have made brighter, but thats minor stuff…
great looking and runs really well.I can pull about 7 log cars with it.Nice job bachmann
mine ran fine right out of the box
Ihave one with digitrax decoder but would like to get a sound system for it Idont know where or how much’and how to install it ? Could some one help me with this. Thanks Bill Hampel
i have not had a problem yet but my climax i had to have a friend fix the gears in it i know my brass shay runs good but i am thinking of putting the bachmann on top of the brass for a better ride even with metal gears. somebody should go after them for selling these engines. they do not stand behind there product at all and they know it to they to wanted to replace it with a shay they should have to fix it and give a new set of gears
