Bachmann Big Hauler reissue

I bought one of this latest version, and really like it. My main beef is the lack of an operating coupler on the front, and the relative difficulty in installing body mounted Kadee couplers on it. My Denver and Rio Grande is a very attractive model, and great to show off. Hats off to Bachmann for this one!

Question - What is the minimum operating radius of this engine? Did not see any mention of this in the write-up. Thank You

Truly not much of an upgrade!

I have 4 of the “Anniversary Edition” 4-6-0 with the metal rods and valves and a junk box full of other versions, a few of which run but are primarily for spare parts to keep my main sets running.

The primary problem with these engines has been poor tracking of the lead truck on even “good” track work. And none of the drive systems has proven reliable as noted by back orders for Barry’s replacement drives. So until someone provides some actual performance and reliability data or the “updated diecast lead truck” design and the new drive, I will hold off purchasing another one.

Additional Con: Not DCC Ready.

Guess Bachmann finally addressed the plastic drive gear failures of their previous Spectrum line. I wonder what problems line within this model?

Bachmann spares are not easy to get in the UK, so when the ten wheeler drive train expired on my primary locomotive, I removed it all, to make the engine free running and inserted two Aristocraft short motor blocks under the tender. A large hole needs to be cut out and a false floor inserted but it is well worth the effort. This loco was tested on Mr Buckingham’s indoor, hand laid track & was found to be capable of hauling in excess of 34 bogie trucks.
I added a litle weight to the pony, ups sorry, pilot truck and am having no problems at all.
As I use the LGB style hook couplings on locos, the simple fitting of a curved thin blackened brass wire across the cow-catcher solved the double heading problem for me.
¿ Is it possable Bachmann could release just a powered chassis with all the metalwork to enable us to retrofit our plastic units ?.
