Bachmann BQ23-7's

Vote. I personally own 11.

This will probably be deemed worthless. But to those who might say that, I ask you to keep quiet.

If I could win one on e-bay,sure i’d own one, perhaps more

I might. I have something with a B and 23 in it. Just gave one away. Hoping to give the second.

See here.

Edited.

Oh, I saw that. I’ll go ahead and make the comment(here): That is a great idea, Chip.

As for the locomotive, that is a plain, bland ol’ B23-7. Family Lines/CSX were the only ones to own BQ23-7’s, yet Bachmann made one in a BRIGHT, shiny Chessie scheme.[?]

I love the unusual look of the BQ23-7s. I wish I had a few, even if they are HO scale…Anyone know where I can find some N scale ones?[:D]

Okay!

Who voted “What the heck is a BQ23-7?”

Hey Trainfreak,I probably have the only one there is in N scale…I scratchbuilt it 25 years ago!!!

A BQ23-7?

PICTURES?!??! Do you do custom work?[:D]

hey, matt when are you gonna get your custom one done??

Hmm…Not sure. I haven’t done much of anything, due to shortage of supplies. Caboose Hobbies listed four sets of Smokey Valley handrails for a BQ, but they e-mailed me later saying they could not find them. I have also not found anywhere else listing those to be available.

Say, when are you gonna get back to me on those Espee box cars?

Send me a private email, i will see if my friend can get thsoe handrails through his distributor how many sets do you want??? He can get smokey valley.
Daniel

hey all !!! it was only offered in HO . A friend of mine bought 2 at a train meet 6 yrs ago… good luck finding them… i saw the actual loco as i grew up in fla…

Trainfreak, and upscsx,PM me your e-maill addresses, and I’ll shoot you some pics.At the time I built it,[when the actual REAL one was new!!!] the only U-boat was the Bachmann U-36b,that’s what I built it from.It look s just like the HO one,it’s an SCL .I think there were only 8 real ones, they ended up as 2, 4-unit sets. The crews hated them, they were the first widecabs,at a time when railroads were just starting to get rid of cabooses, and crewmembers.

For those of you curious, click on this link: http://www.railpcitures.net

Go to the blank box that says “Enter Key Words”, and type in BQ23-7. Then hit “Find the Photos” icon.

The “Q” stands for “Quarters” or “Crews Quarters”. It was a GE B23-7 with an enlarged safety cab, that while to many railfans appeared ugly, it was much roomier than the standard GE pug nosed “*** Tracy” cab.

I remember when I first saw the prototypes back then. No offense, but back then me and the guys that hung around the LHS all said “YUCK!” Now, years later, these locomotives have “sort of” grown on us since they were unusual.

The Bachmann BQ23-7’s body was not bad, but needed moditying to get the details accurate. Model Railroader did have an article on how to spruce these up. The drive was not all that great but there are some good repowering options available today.

That’d be me.

SpaceMouse,

The info is on my post above.

Ohh!

Just checking.

Amazing.

I’m the only one. Well, their rarity has proven itself to me.
