I have a German made Bachmann GP40-2P diesel that I bought in Germany in 1977. After all these years, it is still running without a single breakdown. It has been maintained religously. All maintainance has been done on a monthly basis to include but not limited to: complete disassembly, cleaning, lubing and replacement of any suspect parts. The only parts that have been replaced are the wheel pickups and the couplers, which are Kadee #5’s. It has a can motor which carries the Bachmann logo and a label indentifing it as Bachmann, the year it was made and the country in which it was made, this being Germany. All my locos that were made there have lasted extremely long. Now I know the question on your lips, how much did I pay for it? The answer is: $14.00 brand new in the Robinson Barracks/Ludwigsburg PX. I have run the devil out of this thing for over 22 years and it simply will not die. Comments?
It is …how you say in German…a miracle . But really , my hats off to thz germans for their fine craftsmenship. Your very lucky to have it still running ,but then again thz germans are known for machinery. Congrad’s to you…

Every locomotive I’ve had that was made there lasted many years including a Mantua OO S class switcher that I got '66. It was heavily abused and finally gave it up in '81
29 years and counting
