Bachmann Dynamis?

Has anyone bought this thing yet? I looked at trainworlds website and its listed at $169.99 which seems like a good price. I may get the Dynamis instead of the Zepher if everything checks out. It seems ok i like the screen it has that lists the loco’s class and everything and im sure anything that bachmann comes out with dcc wise is better than there e-z command system no offense to who owns that system.

There are 2 flavors to the Dynamis. The one you are considering is the dumb-down version, I would avoid it for now.

It has no computer connection available.

It is wireless, but it is infrared wireless (requires line of sight). If you loose the line of sight, the system shuts down.

It has no expandability.

The price point of the Dynamis is the same for the Power Pro, Zephyr and Prodigy Express.

If you really want to go with the Dynamis, I would wait until there are lots of reviews out there before I throw my money down on another dead-end system.

I agree. While I like Bachmann I’m not going to spend my money on an unproven system. I’m still going for the Zephyr.

Great choice Jeff! I have one & it has proven itself well.

I have the bachmann EZDCC but thats for testing only. My main DCC is going to be the wireless Radio Digitrax. Digitraxx seems to have the widest custom side shoots available, like signals, computer dispatcher stuff, etc.

But I want to see a really good realistic steam throttle and brake system in DCC.

Many have made DC versions as such.

Here’s a couple user reviews. Seems the biggest gripe is the line of sight remote with the base station. I’ve only seen one model of it (no “Pro” version) and it usually sells for around $200.

Buy one and let us know what you think![:D]

It looks like it takes two hands to run the thing… I assume they’re going for the video game controller effect… I’ve got the Prodigy Advance, and I really like the hand held throttle… easy to handle all the functions with one paw. Frees up the other one for car cards, throwing switches, or holding the martini… Not all at once, of course…

Here is a photo of someone using the Dynamis with one hand. Your mileage might vary. Rich

…not unless he has a very long thumb.

I do not consider two handed operation any problem. I use a NCE Power Cab two handed at times. So do two others in the club I belong to. At model railroad shows, I see many operate using two hands because it is more convenient at times. Something about having normal length thumbs.

Rich

I just might get it, seems like a good system but im going to wait until i get me genesis SD60M first then the Dynamis. Im not really interested in hooking it up to the computer and since this will be my first dcc system i kind of need the dumbed down version. If i get mine before there is a review i will give my opinion of the Dynamis.

I tried it very briefly at my local hobby shop. It looks great and is easy enough to operate. However, the line of sight characteristic is a total deal breaker. Think of it this way… what are you normally looking at when running a model train - the train or the remote control receiver? And if you are watching the train, where do you think the remote control will be pointing?

Here is another person’s experience.

I read somewhere that the Dynamis is made for Bachmann by Lenz, which would explain the Euro-style locomotive icons.

I’ve been giving some serious thought to this DCC system, since I plan on setting up a DCC system on my layout once it’s complete. I have to admit, I like the video game controller layout (as I am a gamer). My layout will be small, so the line-of-sight issue doesn’t seem as big a deal to me then if it were a large layout.

If you’re running in a basement, how hard would it be to rig the receiver up in the ceiling? That would give you full range, I would think… I still think the two handed design in impractical.

Lee

IF you belong to a club that uses NCE, why would you want Bachmann?

Sometime you will have questions, and looking for help.

No, it’s not made by Lenz, it’s made by ESU, the same company that makes Loksound decoders.

Thanks for the correction. I knew it was made by a European company, I just wasn’t sure which one.

Never said I wanted to buy one. The posting is to provide information for those who might consider buying the Dynamis. I think your “read” into the post I was going to buy it.
