Bachmann GE 70 Ton Question

I’ve searched in vain on Bachmann’s site and elsewhere but just cant seem to find the scale dimmensions of this little diesel. I’m considering using one in a scratch-bashing railbus project and just need to know how long the darn thing is. Can anyone tell me the scale or actual length of this locomotive (sans couplers)?

Thanks,

Dave

I can’t help you with dimensions, but this place has a great price on them. I was wondering about one for a kit bash too.

Thanks. I’ve already purchased several locos from those guys and, yes they are great. Don’t know how they can afford to sell new stuff so cheap.

from Model Railroader’s diesel locomotives cyclopedia - Vol 2, the center to center truck spacing is 19’-5", with an overall length (center to center coupler 37’-0". The center to center axle spacing is 6’-10". Measuring from the drawing the length of the hood is approx. 22’-6" at the base. the length of the cab is approx 6’-6". The end face to end face dimension of the sill is approx 33’ (footboard not included). Hope this helps

I happen to have a couple of these sitting on my to-do tabletop. Here’s the measurements I eyeballed with my scale rule.

Over the coupler faces, I find them to be just a tad over 38’. Wheelbase of the truck is about 7’. Between truck centers it is about 19.5’. As best I can determine without tearing into things is that the chassis is about 32’ long.

I just measured one on my layout, here are the dimensions in real inches. The loco is HO scale…

Coupler to Coupler: just under 5 3/4"

Pilot to Pilot (the plow, not someone’s idea of what the engineers are called[:-^]): 4 3/"

Without the shell the underframe is 4"

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the answers guys. That gives me the info I need to proceed. If the chassis is about 4" long that should be just right for my project.

Thanks again!

Dave
