I just purchased the new Bachmann Great Northern 0-6-0 from Tower Hobbies online. Walthers shows it as #160-50711.
It sure is a cool looking little locomotive and since I model the Great Northern it will be a nice addition for my yard. It comes with a cool looking Vanderbilt tender and smoke.
Any comments or reviews on the new Bachmann 0-6-0?
i can’t say anything bad about them, got 2 of them, but they r proabably the older models, not great for speed but mine can pull about 8 cars they’re a nice little engine, a person told a little while back that they were prototipically used as switchers, i also have seen older photos where they hauled ore cars out of coal mines, if u like ur engine take good care of it and it’ll last easily 10-20 years, mine has.
Its a very cool looking model indeed. And I have several several Bachmann 2-6-2s (Which is their 0-6-0 with pilot and trailing trucks) and can report that their operating properties are very nice. But GN never had any 0-6-0s that even remotly looked like that so I declined and am looking for a different option for my steam tourist line.
It is a cool looking locomotive and even if the GN did not have one that looked like it I found it to be different than what I have and what else is out there.
Just thought it would be an unusual add to my roster.
I would like to know what I can do to add a knuckle coupler to the front pilot though?
If Memory serves, the Dummy coupler on the front is a separate part that is glued on.
I would take some testors liquid plastic cement and apply it to the back of the of the pilot where the coupler is glued.
THen from the front start working the coupler left and right and up and down and just keep doing it until it comes off.
From here you got three options.
If you want a regular Kadee coupler but are not concerned with it moving from side to side. Just cut the centering hole off and glue the shank of the #5 coupler in the hole and call it good.
If you wan full working draft gear You got the other two ptions.
File out the opening and construct a mount so you can employ a #5 or #58 coupler box
The other method would be to file out the opening so you can employ the scale sized #78 coupler box.
Those are the options. I have not performed such a conversion so I am a little fuzzy on the specific How Tos at this point.
