Bachmann GP9 DCC & sound

I already have a DCC Bachmann GP9 in which I changed the Bachmann decoder with a NCE decoder for better speed control and silence. I can have a second one for cheap and I wonder if, this time, I should put sound in it as there is a place for a speaker in the fuel tank. Both would make a nice consist with sound.

  • Is there anyone that performed that installation?
  • Which decoder should I buy for good sound?
  • Which speaker?
  • Is there any special issue with that specific model?

Guy,

You could review this if you like;

Also go to the Bachmann web site and under ask the Bach-man click on the search button. Search for GP7 sound install by bapguy. The thread will be the first one. Scroll down to see a photo of my install using a decoder for a Bowser F unit. I like these as they have the keep alive caps built in and the resisters for LED’s. Scroll down some more and see my explanation. I used a 3/4" speaker and the sound is plenty loud. Joe
