Has anyone converted a Bachmann HO 0-6-0 to an On30 model? If so would like to see pictures…thanks
If I ever change over from HOj to On762, my Bachmann Alco will become whichever Kiso Rintetsu loco that most closely matches the existing wheelbase and driver diameter.
However, that change is about as likely as an asteroid impact on my humble abode.
In the meantime, that little 0-6-0T will continue serving as the yard switcher at my ‘end of the railroad’ colliery.

Backwoods Miniatures in the UK sells a conversion kit for a On30 2-6-2 tank loco, which uses the Bachmann 0-6-0 drive.

Look at their web page here
Thanks a lot. many good ideas here.
As I believe, On30 is the same as HO. There was an article about how to weather an On30 boxcar and the person replaced the factory wheelsets with 36" HO wheelsets. I’m not 100%, and I’m pretty new to model railroading, but I believe that On30 is the same gauge as HO.
Ulrich,
Any idea what sort of money they get for that conversion kit? That’s a pretty neat looking little engine.

Mark,
depending on the type you select, the kits are between 50 and 60 GBP, which translates into $ 75 to $ 90, plus shipping. Appears to be quite a lot, but there are a number of etched brass parts and also white metal castings involved. Backwoods Miniatures claim, that this is not a shake-the-box kit, it requires some knowledge, which you undoubtedly have.
true On30 & ho are the same gauge, but not the same scale.Gauge is the distance between the rails & scale is the proportion of a model to the prototype. Both run on the same width track, but that is where the similarity ends. HO uses everything at 1;87…while On30 uses everything 1:48 ( people, vehicles, structures etc. You can make a lot of interesting locomotives using HO models & imagination. jerry
Thanks Ulrich, I appreciate the info!!
Looks as though I’ll need to contact them.
