Bachmann HO scale 2-6-0 Mogul

I have purchased two of these 2-6-0 Moguls from Bachmann. They have enough sound features for me. I will not be needing the full version Soundtraxx decoder. My only concern with them is. Each one will only pull 3 cars up a 2.5% elevation I have on my layout. Otherwise, they are well detailed and run smoothly with my Digitrax Zepher Plus DCC system. They will earn their keep on my Coyote & Camptown R.R.

I purchased two of these models to run on my Ahnapee & Western layout (the prototype ran ex-GB&W Moguls). They are excellent runners, pulling up to 23 cars around my level 30" radius curves. This is one of the best steamers I have…maybe Bachmann will release GB&W as a road name. I also hope they sell parts to these (like tenders) as they do with other steam models. My only trouble has been kitbashing the tenders to the “hi viz” style with the narrow coal box…the DCC capacitors on the board stick up higher than the top of the new tender body.

This is the second sound equipped steamer I have ever purchased. It is a real pleasure not just for its details and features, but knowing I saved a bundle in the process makes me smile every time I start it up.

I might but one or two if they came unlettered. I wish Bachmann would do a 4-6-2.

I model the Ahnapee & Western Railroad circa 1928, and this locomotive is a dream come true. I purchased three and plan to get a fourth. They run well and look great. I agree with Steve’s recommendation - how about a Consolidation?

greetings from New Zealand Just last night I was looking thru B catalogue at new models. as currently have no Bach. gear. Unfortunately our exchange rate with US $ makes expensive buying. I have committed to a new fully kitted loco, so may give this one a try in a couple of months. currently running Frateschi & hornby

I have purchased one of these units and it performs very well but so far only on my test track. I shall be returning to my house and running the engine with load , etc next week. So far the only small problem I have picked up is it seems to have too much volume.

I really hope Bachmann is not simply trying to gain more of the marketplace by promoting a cheaper locomotive. You usually get what you pay for. My experience of over 40 years in the power tool industry has taught me not to buy cheap, for in the long run, cheap means it will get thrown away in a few years. Plus, Bachmann has told me that it is doing away with the manufacturing of many of its steam engines. So for us steam era lovers, it will be interesting to see what will be available in the near future.

Does the comment on the headlight mean, as it seems to, that the headlight is actually visible, instead of that poorly designed “L” shaped plastic piece that does not transmit light up to a top mounted headlight, as in most of their other models?

The 2-6-0 is one of the fundemental locomotives of the transcontinental era & I believe Bachmann stole this cake in a very good way. I have seen locomotives from the 1800’s in action & I have to say that, according to this video, Bachmann gave the feel of late 19th century railroading to life.

I’ve seen one complaint about the lack of rivet detail on the cab sides and roof. Seems silly they didn’t include that simple molded on detail, but the price seems right. I’ll eventually re-letter for a custom roadname, so I may try those rivet decals MicroMark sells. And there’s always Bullfrog Snot if it doesn’t handle grades (2 - 2.5 % max) well. What I’d like to see next is a Harriman style or other non-Belpaire 4-4-2 Atlantic from the 1910-1925 era - the passenger companion to the 2-6-0 freight dragger.

Love the the train runs really smooth but the sound quit within thirty days and was replaced by Micro-Mark with a new train. Sad to say the sound failed on this one also and is now being repaired by Bachmann under there one year warranty. Both sound systems failed within one hour running time.

I’ve had the new type limited sound decoder fail in two of them. Bachmann replaced both engines. It runs well though, and I’ll probably put an aftermarket sound decoder in them eventually because I really miss the dynamo and coupler crash which were on earlier Bachmann sound decoders.

I purchased one of these in CNR paint and it had a wobbly rear driver on the fireman’s side. Sent it back to Bachman who sent me out another. It has only a very slight wobble on the same driver. Neither one of them will negotiate an Atlas code 100 snap switch.

Runs great, good enough sound and will be used in ON30 locomotive for scratchbuilding

Nice model, but it would be better if it were available in its correct Green Bay and Western livery. Also, Bachmann continues to use the fragile, finicky, and outdated wiper method of current collection instead of the more modern and reliable split-frame design such as that employed by many other manufacturers. This is an engineering change that the company could easily manage, given that its manufacturing facility in China produces products with split frame design for those other companies.

As nice a running locomoitive as I have owned. Good detail also, have to get it relettered for GB&W.

I purchased 2 (B&M and NYC) and they both perform very well. I initially had some problems with one of my turnouts ,but as soon as I remidied the problem they have been superb.

I also miss the coupler crash and dynamo in the downgraded sound system. A stickler for detail will also note that there are no boiler bands and no whistle.
