Bachmann HO scale RF-16

My shark grinds as it goes down a hill. Can’t understand why it does that.

Somewhat disappointed. I bought both units and they they appear to be just reworkings from the old Model Power shell. What impresses me is that you can run the units in either DCC or DC mode, so you can take it anywhere you like and run it. They should have put a figure in the cab.

Haven’t bought any yet but they do look handsome! The Pennsy unit could have benefitted from trainphone antennas.

For the price, it is an excellent loco. It jerks uncontrollablely down hill, as if the loco is stalling. There is high noise level from the decoder. The D & H loco looks magnificent. It is a pity to apply weathering.

I have a quadruple set of Demos, not bad; but I wonder why in 2008 the gap between locomotives has to be that wide???

I am not disappointed, I own both the Model Power NYC and now Bachmann Pennsy and D&H. New Bachmanns are visibly much better and improved over the early MPs. I couldn’t get these D&H “A” units fast enough when available and they run and look GREAT on my Pike!! I will add my own figures in the cab and “close” couplers. If you model Eastern Rails you have got to get a pair of these Sharks!!

Don’t have any yet, do have Model Power Sharks from many years ago and haven’t run them. Don’t know wether to wait for PCM’s to arrive or get Bachmann’s without sound. They look good so might have to bite the bullet and go “stealth” with the Sharknose and save the dollars between sound and silent.

As a clarification, should the units just be a scale 13" closer together? There was a reference to the Cyclopedia Vol 2 about a set of drawings. Would it be too much trouble for someone to reproduce that drawing here since the reviewer from MR only saw fit to refer to an out of print book?
Next: what about the missing diaphrams? What would be a good source?

I own one and they are nice looking. They have poor pulling adhesion. Five free rolling cars on a 2% grade. Hopefully they will refine them.

I like my sharks (B&O), they look good and run well. I do plan to replace the decoaders with one that has 128 speed steps. This should improve slow speed preformence. Walthers makes diaphragms that should work well on these units.
