Well after mowing the weeds ouside all day I was too tired to do much until the wife wouldnt let me watch AFV on the big TV so off I went to the workbench, As I traded attention between crotch hits and my workbench I slowly started an experiment. I had been considering just what to do with the drive chassis left over from the LGB Porter I sacrificed to the great god of kitbashing (Boiler went to the Climax project on hold, and the water tank got grafted onto a Bachmann Porter) I had a Big Hauler boiler left over from another round of drivetrain inter-species kitspliing (more on that one later)I occured to me that the boiler front while a tad big might be useful to add a boiler to the LGB chassis and give me yet another unique engine for my layout. After some preliminary measuring I cut off the rear part of the boiler just behind the sand dome banding and shortened the smokebox, I then cut the side tanks to help cover the open area under the boiler and looked to see how it would look with the fuel bunker from an Aristo switcher. The end horrifying Frankenstien result …
I still have a ways to go, fleshing out the boiler, doing a backhead, adding weights, figuring out how to attach everything. I still have to decide whether to attach the fuel bunker and if so a small trailing wheel, or to use a tender which given the boiler size would be more realistic. We’ll see as it progresses.
BTW if your wondering what I did to the Big hauler chassis the boiler came from, about a month ago I shortened the driverods and moved the pistons back and grafted on an old LGB body I picked up sometime ago. This is the terrifying result…
