Bachmann northern 4-8-4 shell removal

This was my grandfather’s. He loved this model but never ran it. I want to use it to pull some excursion trains on the layout. I can’t seem to get the shell off. I found 3 screws on the bottom and removed them but the shell won’t come off. Any ideas?

What scale are we talking about?

On the N scale one I think you have a screw in the top, then you have to pry out the sides of the cab…gently…then be careful of the pilot as you slide the shell off. It’s been a while, but I think thats how it goes.
