Bachmann On2½ Mallet 2-6-6-2

This model of a narrow gage 2-6-6-2 is very detailed.Nice work on this steamer

Need buy!

I own bachman’s On30 version of this engine and it runs as nice as it looks. This one is a step better with i’ts “tsnammi” Soundtrax decoder. For anyone modeling narrow guage, this engine is a fun little marvel to run. In my opinion, I think a good quality engine crew would be a nice addition to this model. I purchased Woodland Scenic train crew set and repainted the figures to add to my On30 engines and it adds a nice touch of realism and life that is more noticable in “O” guage than HO.

I have not bought this locomotive yet, but most likely will this year. This article was very good and my experience with other Bachmann On30 has been very positive. If I was starting out in the hobby today this would be my only scale of choice. I still operate some old Mantua with the Mantua couplers, so I have been doing this for more than fifty years.

I wish they would make this in a saddle tank configuration as it will not fit my 12 inch turntable and is too long for my mining rr.I have 8 Bachmann locos and they all run excellent.

Two questions:

1 - What is the difference between On 2 1/2 and On30? A reviewer noted this loco in On30. Same product?
2 - May MR review indicated a video to accompany this review.
How to activate it?

Thanks.

Hi James, if you read the full review (click on the link under the video) you’ll find information on the prototype for the Bachmann model. It is based on a real locomotive.
Thanks for reading MR.

How long is the model? I am very interested in getting one, but no one so far in reviewing it has said how big it is. Please help.

Hi Wes,
It’s 13 1/4". Hope this helps.
