Bachmann problem #2

A Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-0, non DCC, similar age to the Climax mentioned earlier. Put on the track, the lights come on dimly but no motor activity. No hum, no sparks, in short no sign the thing knows it has power except the lights.

Suggestions?

Your question about the Climax indicated that you are trying to run these engines on a DCC system. What brand of DCC system do you have? Some will not run a DC locomotive.

Also make absolutely sure you have the plugs between the tender and locomotive securely connected.

If you have had these engines in storage for a long period of time, the wheels have probably corroded and need to be cleaned.

cacole is correct. I use NCE and it does NOT support DC operation. I don’t miss that one bit, but it could be why your loco won’t respond.

A DC loco with a DCC controller that does not have the stretched zero bit option will buzz but not move. Lights will usually come on.

Rich

The HO B achmann Spectrum 4-6-0’s came as DCC ready or DCC with Sound only. There were no DCC on board versions

I’m using Digitrax which does support one non-DCC locomotive at a time. Thanks to the help here and some poking and prodding I found a plug not firmly seated. Ten-Wheeler now runs fine.
