Bachmann SD-45 body removal

[:-^]

Hi Guys,

I have several Bachmann SD-45s and two of them I do not have a problem getting the body off of.

But I have one of newest ones and I cannot find a way to remove the body. I had a number of warranty papers in with it but not one schematic for it. There are two screws underneath the fuel tank but the removal of them doesn’t seem to make a difference. The body sides flex some when attemping to pry it a little but nothing seems like it is going to come apart like the other two.

Any suggestions ?? I am all ears…

Johnboy out…and stumped

Did you look at the front and rear af the frame where they’re closest to the couplers? Quite a few of my newer Bachmann locos have a plastic tab that hold the couplers in and do a fair job of keeping the chassis from dropping out as well. On these I had to gently pry the frame up past the tabs . After that the body came right off.

If you’re missing the parts diagram sheet, you can probably print this one from the Bachmann site: SD45 Diagram. You’ll need Acrobat reader to see it since it’s a PDF file.

As far as removing the shell, the two screws under the fuel tank are for holding the motor to the shell. After you remove the coupler boxes, there are four tabs holding the shell to the body, these are the ones that need to be released in order to take off the shell. The diagram shows where they attach to the chassis, inserting a small screw driver will release them. Just work slowly to avoid breaking them.

Thank you Jeff and Tony,

I got the shell off and the decoder removed and jumpers in place and lubed.

I’m one of the Old Boys that have decided to remain DC. I can figure that stuff out but am no way into all the new electronics, besides don’t have the money for that either.

You Fellas always come through. thank again.

Johnboy out…now to see how it runs.
