My bachmann shay is not responding. How do I reset the locomotive on a NCE system. The loco is DCC and sound equipped.
Any help would be appreciated?

You are going to have to know what decoder is in the Shay, then try reading Tony’s link:
http://www.tonystrains.com/technews/dec_rescue.htm
It outlines how to rest different manufacturers decoders.
The instructions are in the document for the Bachmann sound decoders at the SoundTraxx site. If all else fails, follow instructions. I think the document is at the Bachmann site also.

So I put the loco on the programming track last night. The NCE system could not read the decoder. Is this because I need a programming booster?
The loco still does not work on DCC. How do I reset it on the main without knowing the address?

Write CV29=6 and CV1=3 in ops mode while having address 00 selected.
After that you can reset as per normal.

The Bachmann Shay has the SoundTraxx Tsunami decoder. Your paper work with the loco should have said this. All the advertising says Tsunami.
Go to the SoundTraxx site and download the manual.

I use the NCE Power Cab at home and the NCE Power Pro at the club and no issues with programing.
Some put a 1000 ohm resistor across the track or a 1156 taillight bulb while programing.
You might have a defective decoder.
Try to give more in the way of details in the future.

The NCE power Pro does need a program track booster, but the NCE Power Cab does not need one.
