My wife gave me a Bachmann Spectrum "Baldwin 4-6-0 for Xmas. I was looking for advice from someone who may have installed a decoder with sound in this loco. Any suggestions about which would be the best fit.
Thanks for any help
Bill
Depends on which model you have. If it is the ‘low’ boiler’ version, the dimensions in the tender are quite tight. The ‘high boiler’ version as a couple of tender options depending on the road name. I got an ‘undec’ high boiler version - tender is similar to the Russian Decapod. I bought the SoundTraxx LC unit for the decapod, then found out that the DCC plug was not in the same position - I have to move it and rewire, but I got it working! I would check with Tony’s Trains about his suggestions…

there is so little room in the tender that comes with the high boiler version that i’ve been considering removing the bachmann board that’s in there and wiring it all up myself . problem is i’m not sure i can ! i have the tsunami and a 1" speaker , but i think i’m going to have to get a smaller speaker no matter what else i do
the january MR had a new product listing from loksound (ESU) about an N scale sound decoder they’re coming out with , unfortunatly i couldn’t find any info on their website http://www.loksound.de/us/index.php?showId=2
I just called Tony’s Trains and he quoted $170 to add a Tsunami to the 4-6-0 high boiler Bachmann, add that to the $120 paid for loco and we are up to $290
Then maybe a comparable BLI would be in order.
ok , now i just need you to pay them to do it for you , and when you get it back take it apart and tell me how they did it [:D]
Does BLI even make a 4-6-0. I’ve been looking for a sound equipped 4-6-0 from either BLI or P2K but haven’t seen one yet. I’d like to get a pair for my RR.
