Bachmann Spectrum SD-45

How is it?Is it DCC equipped? Thanks

According to Bachman’s website the EMD SD-45’s in the Spectrum line, #'s 82711 through 82719 are DCC equipped.

I have three Bachman loco’s. A Spectrum (Baldwin 2-8-0 Consolidation) Steam Engine, GP-35 Diesel and a GP-40 Diesel. The diesel’s are not Spectrum’s. Both diesel’s run ok. The 2-8-0 Steamer is squealing a little. I think the motor needs oil. All are brand new, all have 28 speed steps.

I’ve read that the decoder that Bachman uses is not very good. I can say that the starting point for all loco’s is between 7-9 of the 28 speed steps. I’m happy with the diesel’s so far. I paid $30. each for them. I’m disappointed with the steamer and it is suppose to be the better of the bunch. I pain $90. for it.

Hope this helps.

Trust me, get the Proto 2000 one instead. I’ve got one in front of me now, it’s got great detail, great looks, and it can REALLY haul!
I’ve also got a spectrum GP35, which I can say is good for the money, but seeing as it’s so cheap, that’s not saying too much. not scale, really.

I bought the newest Bachmann Spectrum SD45 for $35. It was DCC ready and I installed a Digitrax decoder and it runs great. (See my previous post) Sure, it isn’t a P2K SD45 or a Kato but it still cost me less than half of what a discounted P2K costs. So I repeat, if you are on a budget that doesn’t have room for a $90-$130 SD45 the Bachmann Spectrum (newest version) is acceptable. It can be upgraded with detail parts and still keep the pricetag well under $50.
