Bachmann Spectrum USRA 2-6-6-2 Bell and Headlight

The Spectrum 2-6-6-2 is a replica of the C&O class H5 USRA 2-6-6-2. As modelled, I assume accurately, the bell is a tolling (swinging) one, not fixed in position, mechanically struck. Was the bell tolled by a local actuator or by a lanyard running back to the fireman’s cab position?

The Grizzly Northern’s latest acquisiton, a sound equipped 2-6-6-2, has a small deck on top of the headlight whereas an earlier no-sound 2-6-6-2 purchased last year doesn’t have the deck. I don’t intend to change either but am interested if both versions were prototypical. [:)]

I wanna say local actuator, as I do not recall seeing a lanyard on the H4 or H6 (photos of teh H5’s are scarce).

I’ll get back to you on this I just need to check a book or two.

ok, just checked and as far as I can see they are NOT lanyards, so must be mechanical.

Hope this helps
