Can anyone tell me how to get at the motor on a Spectrum Baldwin 2-8-0??[?]
You might be better off either taking it to a train shop that does repairs or send it back to Bachmann to have it fixed. They’re a little tricky and not hard to screw up. I found this out the hard way…

You do have the parts instructions for yours don’t you. These are not easy to get apart, but can be done with great care taken into hand. I could show you easier than I can tell you.
Look over the drawings many times so you are familar with the loco when you start the surgery. Make sure all the right tools ar at hand. If you run into a problem or something will not come apart, walk away and come back later. It can be done, just take your time.
If you have a problem, send it back. They will charge you a small fee, Depending on how long you’ve had it. They may not repair it if it shows signs that it has been “tampered with”. If you have another reason to take it appart…Good Luck
I just took mine apart last week to fix a “broken wire” problem. It really isn’t that difficult. All you’ll really need is a good set of jewelers screw drivers and take you’re time. I don’t have the locomotive in front of me at this time (I’m at work) but it really wasn’t that difficult.
The one thing I do remember…If you are trying to get to the motor, don’t remove the skinny cover on the underside of the locomotive that is between the 8 driver wheels. All that is under that cover is gears, lots of them…
Use your parts break down sheet that came with the locomotive, I found this to be very helpful along the way.
Thanx, Fellows. The diagram is pretty hard to comprehend. I got to the point of trying to lift the boiler off, & thats were I’m stuck now. Thanx again. Boxcar Willy
