Bachmann Steam with Tsunami

I may replowing old ground but I have 2 Bachmann 2-10-0 steam with Tsunami factory installed sound that will not program.

I have tried mainline and program track and there is no indication they aren’t programming but unit will not operate. I have a 2-8-0 with the same sound/DCC from Bachmann that works fine.

On the programming track this is a known issue with sound units. They take so much current the programming track looses its signal before it can get the programming to the decoder. The make programming boosters to solve this problem. In fact, I think Soundtraxx made a special one just for the Tsunamis. If a unit programmed in this way consider yourself luck, some just happen to work. Most don’t.

For programming on the main I am puzzeled. Were the units new when you got them? I mean are you certain they were on channel #3 when you started programming? If not the first thing I would try to do is re-set them to factory defaults ie. channel #3. Then see if it runs on channel #3 before trying again. I have often pushed an incorrect button while programming on the main and programmed the loco to some unknown channel number.

As for old ground - try searching over on the DCC & Electronics sub-forum. I believe everything from this general discussion with DCC in the title got moved over there.

Yes the units are new. I will try your reset idea and see what happens. Thanks!

Programming on the main is the prefered meothod for programming all sound locomotives. If you dont want to, then I suggest buying a DB150 and programming with that.
