bachmann track question

Hello All,

A friend of mine is using Bachmann EZ Snap track and is wanting to cut power to a leg of track that has been switched from the mainline. Does Bachmann make something to cut the power to that leg or does he have to do it the old school way with power block ??

Old school way. Cut one rail and put it on a toggle switch.

I have used EZ-track in both HO and N. You didn’t specify, so I am assuming your friend is building in HO. I have found from working on my temporary holiday layout that you can install standard insulated rail joiners on EZ track. Getting the factory-installed metal joiner off first is a bit of a chore, involving careful work with needle-nosed pliers. And you have to be willing to do a little plastic carving with a sharp X-acto knife. The roadbed around the connection points must be carved away, in order to make room for the thicker profile of the insulated rail joiner. But once you have carved out enough room the track locks together normaly, with only the smallest hint of a gap between sections.

Then, in order to simplify setup and tear-down on my temporary layout, I use the standard Bachman power track section to provide power on the isolated spur. I route the wiring to small control panel with a couple of toggle switches.
