A lot of my cars and engines have the Bachmann type knuckle couplers. Bachmann, Lionel G and K-line G to be eact. I’ve been running into problems of them uncoupling going into full open on straight runs even. I do have spares to replace the culprits with and changing them all out with Kaydee is not an option at this time. A hook and loop mass changeout is also not an option.
I recall reading a thread on here sometime back about solving this problem by painting the couplers. I can’t find it though so does anyone have any ideas on this such as do you paint them with them open or closed?
I run all my stock on bachmann couplers, check the hieght of any points/turnouts ect some of the covers are not seated properly. Also oil the cuplers so that the locking bar drops down. If this fails file a bit off the bottem of the drop down bar[:)] Hope this helps
I too am curious. It would seems to me that painting them in the open position would cause them to open even more. But what do I know I have the LGB hook and loop on everything, to include the New Bright fleet, and it is mostly there for “fillers”.
I painted all the couplers on two of my cars with the Bachmann couplers a couple of days ago (in the open posistion). I must have did something wrong. On one of the cars neither coupler would stay closed after I opened them and closed them manually.
I have standarised on the Bachmann Knuckle Coupler for my entire fleet of cars and locomotives, some 80 items, Economy was my original purpose, however I have found them to be an excellent product, and the only retro fitted coupling which goes straight onto all Aristocraft, USA Trains and LGB US equipment.
USA Trains supply a knuckle coupling which requires cutting their coupling mount to fit, however the Bachmann Knuckle just screws straight onto the original mount, as it does with LGB and Aristocraft equipment. The Aristo/Delton/Classic equipment come already fitted with a Bachmann compatible knuckle, which is very hard to couple to other Aristo knuckles!
It is Bachmann all the way for me,a very satified user.
